Guntrader are delighted to announce a new partnership with British Shooting supporting their annual Schools Pistol Championships 2018/19. The Championship comprises of seven regional qualification events across England, Scotland and Wales in October and November. Teams of 3 and Individuals will have the chance to qualify for the National Final.

The mixed gender and physical ability Championships is divided into 3 age categories according to athlete’s school year age (Junior, Intermediate and Senior), enabling athletes aged 11-18 to compete.

The Championship aims to open up the world of shooting to the future generation with a welcoming and friendly environment at the regional competitions, where the focus is strongly on participation. These competitions and the National Final are excellent environments for GB, Home Nation and Regional Squad coaches to identify those with natural talent and desire to continue. Offering encouragement and guidance to the young people and the adults with them, the skilled coaches and events team supporting each competition, provide a launch platform onto the pathway to help our future athletes achieve their Olympic or Paralympic dream.

The competition format is guided by the Olympic and Paralympic event 10m Air Pistol, but a shortened inviting version. All athletes attain a qualifying score from shooting twenty static competition shots, from which the highest placed 8 athletes in each age category progress to a shoulder to shoulder knockout final on the day. From each of the Regional Championships Individuals and Teams in each age category win a Quota Place to compete at the National Final. Disabled athletes who qualify for the National Final will also have the opportunity to compete in the Disability class at the National Final.

Gorgs Geikie, British Shooting Events and Commercial Coordinator said; “The appetite and growth of these championships has been fantastic in the short time since it’s trial event in 2014. The 2017/18 Championships saw a total of 560 Team & Individual entries from 217 schools across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland

“With 2 additional Regional events in the coming 2018/19 Season, we hope to expand and build upon its past success.

“As a 2012 Olympian pistol shooter, it’s fantastic to see such talent in existence in Great Britain, but people just don’t realise where the sport can take them if they choose. This is partly why we at British Shooting hope the Schools Pistol Championships will provide a solid, open, welcoming step onto the ladder for athletes to either simply enjoy through participation or help guide them on up the talent pathway.”

The National Final is to be held at Stoke Mandeville Stadium in Buckinghamshire on Wednesday 16th January 2019. It provides a fantastic climax to the Championships and offers the opportunity for those Individuals and Teams representing their schools who have qualified, to compete against some of the other best young pistol shooters in Great Britain. The professionally run and exciting National Final for athletes and spectators, aims to be a fixture on the sporting calendar not to be missed and where stars of the future are crowned National Champions of today.
