A good show but some of the prices are not fair play

The weather served to ensure that it was not one of the great Game Fairs. Just a bit too hot for an orgy of spending, even though the CLA had cleverly thought to provide the facility to allow visitors to drop shopping off and collect it later. And then there was the venue. Ragley is among the least accessible of those that the CLA chooses and for visitors approaching from the M40, the trek across country in single file took an hour even at seven in the morning. A small hardship though because as days out go, the Game Fair remains among the very best. The formula changes little and why should it? The event is as much a gathering of the clan as it is a showcase for country pursuits and many of those who attend do so in part to seek the assurance that at least something remains fixed in a changing world. Alas, the most obvious reminder that not all things remain fixed was the cost of the food, which was astounding. A pork bap for £6? Obviously the prices reflect (or maybe they don’t) the pitch fees that are levied, but six pounds for a slice of meat and a rather unambitious bun. Outrageous!
