Description

1862 dated 5th Variant Burnside Carbine with saddle ring and bar with an overall brown patina with clear stampings on the barrel and action with stock in good condition, also with matching serial numbers on breech block and action. These carbines were the 3rd most common carbines used by the Cavalry during the American Civil War and the first carbine adopted to use a metallic cartridge. The cartridge was unusual by today's standards due to the conical shape and the fact that it was still detonated by means of a percussion cap. The flip up rear sight is graduated at 100 and 300 yards.
