James Purdey and Sons 12 Bore,
Assisted/Self-Opening, Sidelock Ejector.
Cased in Maker’s leather case.
Number 3 of a Trio made for a Maharaja in late 1902.
This gun noted in Donald Dallas’ book about the maker.
Stocked at 14” with a finely figured, straight hand walnut stock.
Horn butt plate.
Splinter fore-end with Anson release.
Bright Bar action with fine Rose and Scroll engraving.
Disc set strikers.
Arrowed cocking indicators.
Beesley/Purdey 1880 patented Assisted Self-Opening design.
Blacked top lever engraved “3”.
Automatic Rocker safety with gold engraved “SAFE”.
Whitworth Steel Chopper lump Barrels at 27 1/2”
Concave game rib engraved with Maker’s name and Audley House address.
Choked approximately 1/2 and 1/4.
New barrels fitted by Purdey in approximately 2005, circa 2000 cartridges since then.
Perfectly choked for use with standard steel cartridges.
A timeless classic in excellent condition with the not inconsiderable advantage of new barrels to outlast any owner.
