Everyone is special

Guns on Pegs is arguably the most influential agency in the lucrative market for buying and selling sporting rights. If you are looking for a day’s grouse shooting in North Yorkshire or a bit of Highland stalking, then Guns on Pegs are your people.

However a number of its clients may be disappointed to receive an invitation to join them at the Game Fair later this month, for an evening reception. Disappointed because whilst the email attaching it came with the assurance that it was an ‘Exclusive Invitation”, closer examination of the card revealed the solemn warning that it was issued on a first come, first served basis, clearly implying that those turning up late would not only not get a drink, but they wouldn’t even get in.

Worse was to follow with the further highly ambiguous statement that the first drink of the evening would be provided by gunmaker William Evans. Did that imply that thereafter it would be, pace so many wedding receptions nowadays, a paying bar? Some years ago the Countryside Alliance sent out invitations enticing VIPs to join them at an earlier Game Fair, dangling the prospect of “real Champagne” being on offer, thereby bringing down on itself the derision of the many who replied by asking if there was any other kind? Perhaps at Guns on Pegs needs to revisit the word ‘exclusive’?
