The Shooting School
From the moment you step on the grounds at Lady’s Wood, you will be made to feel at home. Whether you’re a novice shooter or an experienced shot the coaches and tuition will be tailored to your requirements. The shooting lessons and tuition is run by General Manager and Shooting Instructor, Chris Hanks alongside his trusty team of instructors.
Clay Shooting Lessons
Lady’s Wood Shooting School offer clay shooting lessons for lone shooters but also for groups and juniors. During each of these lessons you will shoot a range of sporting stands that are spread across the grounds and mature woodlands. The shooting school have targets set from their 120ft high tower which has been fitted with various automatic clay pigeon traps which release clays from as little as 40ft. As well as less complex targets for both beginners and experienced shooters.
All clay shooting tuition is inclusive of an APSI qualified coach, optional gun hire and all safety equipment.
Game Shooting Lessons
At Lady’s Wood Shooting School game shooting remains the heart of everything they do. During your lessons you will benefit from the knowledge that is withheld by your instructor which comes from many years of experience shooting across a variety of the shoots that our industry has to offer.
Your shooting lesson will include shooting stands that include a range of towers, from 10-75 yards high and a grouse butt. Which will take place in the woodland adjacent to the reception area and gun room at the front of the property.
All game shooting tuition is inclusive of a qualified coach, optional gun hire and all safety equipment.
Pay and Play
As of summer 2020, Lady’s Wood Shooting School had Bowman Sporting Traps installed across the shooting school. This has enabled the shooting school to combine seven brand new stands, with a 10-sporting clay stand with the pay and play offer. The shooting school welcomes individual shooters and groups of up to six that are license holders to adventure their way around the grounds and shoot this desired layout.
However, please note that the Bowman Sporting Practice doesn’t include access to the high tower, grouse butt, and surrounding stands. To access these, you will need to book a caddied practice. All shooters MUST present an original valid shotgun certificate upon arrival.
The Bowman Sporting Practice is open Tuesday-Saturday 9am to 3pm. All shooting is to finish at 4:30pm.

Caddied Practice
Your caddied session will include shooting a wide range of traps and stands with up to 100 clays (per person) within your hour-long session. The practice session will enable you access to high-quality facilities across the shooting school alongside sporting stands that aren’t included in the Bowman sporting Traps.
These sessions are available to individuals, and groups of up to two or more. Cartridges however are not included in the practice, but you can bring your own or purchase these from the onsite gun room.

Optimisation
Lady’s Wood Shooting School also offer an optimisation session that gives clients a comprehensive lesson that you may not have received during your first shooting experience.
This session will include:
- A barrel length fit check
- Choke check
- Gun fitment check
- Correct gun review
- Tips on how to improve your technique
- A guide to consistently shooting high birds
- Recognising your faults and how to improve these
Your optimisation lesson will be a full day of intensive tuition and will be tailored to take your shooting to the next level. All of the coaches are highly experienced due to their decades of shooting knowledge and first-hand experience.
The lesson will also include up to 300 clays ad cartridges, refreshments, and a final report for you to take away and refer back to.

Lady’s Wood Extreme Tower
Lady’s Wood Shooting School is one of the best shooting schools to learn to shoot game. With a variety of driven grouse, partridge, pheasant, and wildfowl they have ensured they have the complexity to give you a new or familiar shooting experience.
The course is set regularly in order to give you some excitingly challenging clays but fear not your instructor will help you through each target with the correct amount of guidance.
Extreme high pheasant lessons can be booked throughout the summer and autumn months which is the perfect form of preparation in the months leading up to the game season.

At Lady’s Wood Shooting School, you will receive a wealth of experience when they host your corporate day or event. To the scenic woodland setting that surrounds the stands, the gun room and corporate room makes the idyllic location for your meetings. All types of businesses are welcomed to the shooting ground, whether it be the construction industry or financial sector there’s enjoyment to be had for all.
The lodge is a Cotswold stone building that has been decorated with sport art and shooting memorabilia. The lodge has been furnished with a large table seating up to twelve people however, if you’d prefer a more relaxed environment, they have seating next to a roaring fireplace during those chillier months.
You will also be given a range of catering options, such as anything from a bacon roll to a three-course meal. Michelin star catering can also be arranged if it is a special occasion.

Flush & Flurry
The Flush & Flurry half day experience is an action-packed morning/afternoon of shooting, food, fun and laughter. Available to experience with groups of up to 4,8- and 12-guns Lady’s Wood will have you shooting up to 600 clays across four flushes and flurries. Included in your package will be around 300 cartridges per person as well as a variety of game targets such as partridge, high pheasant, rabbits, pigeon, ducks, and grouse.
The Sportarm Flush & Flurry is a great alternative of either a simulated day or a formal corporate event. Priced at £160+ VAT per person which will include refreshments, clays, cartridges, as well as the guidance from the very knowledgeable instructors. If you’d like to add any additional instructors, loaders or gun hire this can also be arrange at additional costs.

Clay pigeon shooting makes one of the best activities to begin celebrations with a bang! Available for anyone and perfect for the group.

Lady’s Wood Shooting School organise the perfect days shooting throughout the summer months. Their sim days are a great way of imitating driven game without the high expenses, cold weather and shooting of live game.

Chavenage Estate
A private estate in the heart of Gloucestershire’s glorious countryside, Chavenage makes one of the greatest shooting experiences in the UK.
Your shoot day will be set across 1,700 acres of rolling countryside which dates back to the 16th century. A day full of shooting ad fun set in a location steeped in history!

A rough itinerary of the day
09:15 – Meet at The Royal Oak, Leighterton, for bacon rolls and coffee. Then it’s time for a safety briefing and the all-important drawing of pegs!
10:00 – Depart for Chavenage Estate (a short drive from The Royal Oak).
10:30 – First drive, Cranmore. A gentle partridge drive to ease you into the day’s shooting.
11:00 – First drive concludes and we have a short drinks break, before moving off to the second drive.
11:30 – Second drive, Knights Bank. A steep, narrow valley showing a high volume of mixed partridge and pheasant.
12:00 – Elevenses. A selection of soft drinks will be available along with light snacks.
12:30 – Third drive, Lowsley Hill. A high pheasant drive set in a beautiful valley.
13:30 – Fourth drive, Pump House. An extreme high pheasant drive where birds are driven from a high-sided valley over the awaiting guns.
14:00 – Finally, we return to The Royal Oak for a two-course lunch
