Sad death underlines the safety of the sport

The tragic death of 15 year old Edward Gabbert is a stark reminder of the need for shooters to place the safety of themselves and others right at the top of their agenda.

Edward died on a night time lamping expedition, following which a 35 year old man was arrested by police and later bailed; however, the incident which has all the hallmarks of being a tragic accident has also served to highlight just how safe shooting is. In a list of those sporting activities in which more than 100,000 people are known to participate and measured by injuries serious enough to involve disability or worse, shooting comes fifteenth – a very long way behind the most dangerous of them all – riding.
