The Perazzi Ribless Game Review

A Gun like no other!

The Perazzi Ribless Game Review

Like any other game gun, the Perazzi Ribless Game is a gun built for reliability and endurance in the field. Although, this particular gun features one less mechanical design. The rib. This is to reduce the guns overall weight and so say improve the speed/ handling amongst other things. You could also consider that it makes the gun look more elegant, but we’ll let you decide

What we Like

Dealer Feedback

On noticing a gap in the market for a lighter-weight game gun we approached Perazzi: Italian gunmaker famed for its competition guns, but who hadn’t yet made a true lightweight model. We blended our companies game shooting expertise with Perazzi’s renowned gun-building skills. The removal of the top rib adds finesse and lends itself to creating a superbly balanced shotgun with exquisite handling, the ability to have the factory Perazzi experience means you are able to choose your own stock blanks starting from SC3 grade with the option to choose SCO and SCO-C highly figured timber, You will also have the ability to choose your choice of barrel length, choking and any engraving but more importantly have the stock fitted to you individually on site so that you can shoot the pattern plate until the shot is perfectly centered, this means that you are able to have a completely handmade and hand engraved one off made to measure gun at an affordable price.

Gunsmith Feedback

What are the three main things that tend to go wrong with these guns?

Much like all the Italian gun makers, the firing pins pit and can lead to misfires. The top levers can often be very tight on these guns when new and can feel even tighter as the bolt beds in forward into the ‘Bite’. This is not something that goes wrong but something which can cause irritation. The third thing is that the forend screws can often work free and can lead to splits up the forend wood, do regularly check these with an Allen screw being mindful not to over-tighten though!

What should a buyer look for when looking at this gun?

If you have the opportunity to test one of these guns do so, there have been a few reports of them feeling very whippy and too fast in the barrel movements something that doesn’t suit everyone, but equally can make it feel like a revelation if you struggled in getting the gun moving.

What is your overall opinion on the design and mechanisms that make this gun?

Brilliant, I rate Perazzi’s very highly for their capability to put up with thousands of rounds and hard Use. All parts are readily available and are relatively easy to change. The ejectors are often sloppy with tall brass cartridges which can be annoying. Often this is due to a lack of cleaning of the chambers and crud around the injectors themselves. Perazzi have been on the market for a long time now and can boast multiple Olympic medals and multiple world champions using them. The Ribless game model is a nod to the Boss and Co Ribless over and under which was made popular a long time ago and is now back and proving popular once more.

What advice would you give to buyers looking to buy this gun? Or people that have one in their cabinet other than the usual cleaning advice?

I would be mindful of Italian gun measurements. They always do the stocks short, and they always expect the head to be right up at the front of the comb, which really isn’t a good idea for British shooters shooting game, so if you can get it checked by a reputable gun fitter. It is worthwhile these guns are really Great all-rounders and can last a lifetime if well-maintained. Perazzi will always demand a higher price than the average over and under purely because of their reputation and popularity.

When buying new, do you think this gun is fairly priced for what it offers you as a shooter?

I think you get fantastic build quality and guns that will last a lifetime. There aren’t that many coming on the second-hand market which would show that they’re destined for a life of work with very little in the way of issues, those that do come on the second-hand market tend to be snapped up quite quickly, but as I said previously, the Ribless game won’t suit everyone so it’s always worth trying before buying.

Shooter Feedback

What made you purchase this gun? Or shoot this gun if not owned?

I had wanted to try this gun as they are rare to come across, and I wanted to see what advantages it gave you as a shooter.

What did you like about the overall design, feel, and build of the gun?

The overall feel and design are amazing which is the typical build quality of a Perazzi. A very smooth and sturdy design with beautiful hand-engraved hunting scenes on the action.

How would you describe the overall feeling when shooting the gun?

The feeling when shooting this gun although strange, was very good. It’s a versatile gun that gives you great visibility around the barrels, which is the idea of ribless barrels. To have less obstruction.

What would you recommend people keep on top of maintenance with this gun in particular?

With any gun general maintenance is extremely important, especially game guns if you’ve been shooting in poor weather conditions. Remember not to leave the gun wet when in the sip etc. However, there are no special requirements with this Perazzi.

The Verdict

Overall, this gun appears to be well-loved across the industry. A gun made by Italian manufacturer Perazzi, they are best known for producing some of the top-tier competition guns on today’s market.

The Ribless game gives you less weight to lug about during your shoot day travels as well as a wider perspective for the shooter. Mechanically the Ribless game is a very reliable gun and can obtain a lot of hard use with the right aftercare.
